Finnley is appointed a Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet by Mr James Dick OBE

On Thursday 25th September, Cadet Warrant Officer Finnley Sprakes was formally appointed as the Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet for the Air Training Corps in Yorkshire and the Humber. This prestigious position is reserved for cadets who demonstrate the very highest standards of service, leadership, and community spirit.

The appointment ceremony was conducted in the presence of His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire, Mr James Dick OBE, whose warm welcome and encouragement left a lasting impression. Mr. Dick’s dedication to community service and his strong advocacy for youth development reflect the values that the Cadet Forces strive to instil in their young people.

Finnley will now accompany the Lord-Lieutenant at a number of civic and ceremonial occasions, representing both the Air Training Corps and the wider RAF Air Cadets community.

In his closing remarks, Mr Dick highlighted the lifelong benefits of being part of a cadet organisation. He noted that those who have experienced the cadet journey often stand out from their peers, excelling in communication, confidence, teamwork, and resilience. These remarks strongly echoed Finnley’s own passion for championing the Cadet Forces as a path of growth and opportunity for young people.

The evening was made possible thanks to the efforts of the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for Yorkshire and the Humber, who organised a memorable and inspiring event. Special thanks also go to Middleton Barracks for hosting such an incredible evening.

This appointment marks not only a personal milestone for Finnley, but also a recognition of the vital role played by the Cadet Forces and our squadron in preparing the next generation of leaders.
