Cadets Team-Up for Air Rifle Training
On Sunday, 16th February, cadets met at Halifax Barracks, Hull to learn about the safe operation of air rifles for target shooting.
This week, cadets from 110 (City of York) and 1324 (Hawker Blackburn) Squadrons joined forces to share a training day on the safe use of air rifles, which now qualifies them to undertake the progressive target shooting programme on the squadron’s air rifle range.
The squadron executive officer and former county shooting officer, Flying Officer Thomas Sugden took the cadets through an air rifle familiarisation, prior to teaching them how to operate the rifles safely.
“This was my first time learning to shoot and it has been fun. [There was a lot of important information to learn] so the day was a bit stressful, but very enjoyable.”
- Cadet Alex Pniewski
On completion of the training, all cadets successfully passed the air rifle weapons handling test, allowing them to use the weapon for 6 months from the date of assessment.
The unit is trying to standardise a day of weekend training per month to help compliment weekday training, so watch out for regular opportunities to take part in things like band practice on the third Sunday of every month, while also meeting some cadets from local units!
