The Motto:
DARE GREATLY
The Squadron’s designation 'Hawker Blackburn' refers to the two British aircraft companies that produced iconic aircraft of the twentieth century at Brough.
The hawk (which is depicted as a goshawk) alludes to the Hawker Aircraft Company and Hawk, the final aircraft to be produced on-site by BAE Systems Brough. The firebrand alludes to the Blackburn Aircraft Company, the Firebrand being one of its aircraft. In addition the hawk, as a creature of the air, reflects the airmindedness of all who serve on the squadron and it is shown jessed and belled to suggest control of flight. The firebrand is an allusion to changemaking, illumination, and the leading of cadets in all their endeavours.
The waves represent the River Humber upon which the town of Brough is located.
